The DS26C31 is above the balance line of a four-differential line-driven digital data transfer design. The DS26C31T meets all the requirements of the EIA standard RS-422 while retaining the low power consumption characteristics of CMOS. The DS26C31M is compatible with the environmental impact assessment standard RS-422, but exceptions are made in one of the test methods. This enables serial interface and terminal construction while maintaining minimal power consumption.

The DS26C31 accepts TTL or CMOS input levels with these converted to RS-422 output levels. This part uses a special output circuit so that the car that is not loaded with the driver's power does not pull down. The device has enabled and disabled circuits for all four riders in common. The DS26C31 pin-compatible AM26LS31 and DS26LS31.
