The DS485 is a low-power transceiver for RS-485 and RS-422 communications. The device contains a driver and a receiver. The driver slew rate allows operation at up to 2.5 Mbps (see application information section).

The transceiver raises a supply current of 200 μA or fully unloaded driver loading with a disabled μA and is powered by a single +5 V supply.

The driver is short-circuit current limited and opposes excessive power loss thermal shutdown protection circuitry that will output a three-state ® (high-resistance) driver in the event of a fault. The driver guarantees A) A minimum differential output voltage of 1.5V V OD3 maximum loading of the entire common mode range ().

The receiver has fault protection to guarantee a logic high level output if the input is open.

The DS485 is available in both surface mount and DIP packages for industrial and commercial temperature range operation.
