Intersil's ICL7660 and ICL7660A monolithic CMOS-powered circuitry offer unique performance advantages over previously supplied devices. ICL7660 perform conversion from positive to negative supply voltage to +1.5 V to +10.0 V, complementary output voltage range of -1.5 V to -10.0 V, and ICL7660A not the same conversion to the input range of +1.5 V complementary output voltage -1.5V to 12.0V +12.0 V. There are only 2 non-critical external capacitive charge pumps and the need for reservoir function. ICL7660 and ICL7660A can also be connected to a voltage multiplier and will generate an output voltage of +10 V input from 18.6 to five.

Included on the chip is a series of DC power regulators, RC oscillators, voltage level converters, and 4 output power MOS switches. The unique logic element detects the most negative voltage of the device and ensures that there is no forward bias at the output N-channel switching source substrate junction. This ensures latching operation.

When unloaded, the oscillator, oscillating 5.0V input supply voltage at a nominal frequency of 10kHz. In addition, this frequency can reduce the "oscillation" terminal by an external capacitor, or can be overloaded by an external clock oscillator.

The "LV" terminals can be connected to the ground bypassing the internal linear regulator to improve low-voltage (LV) operation. At medium to high voltages (+3.5 V to +10.0 ICL7660 and +3.5 V to +12.0 V ICL7660A five), the LV pins are suspended to prevent device latching.
