Intersil's ICL7660 and ICL7660A monolithic CMOS power circuits offer unique performance advantages over previously offered devices. The ICL7660 performs conversion from positive to negative supply voltages to an input voltage range of -10.0 V with a complementary output voltage of -1.5 V and an input voltage range of -10.0 V and the ICL7660A with an input range of +1.5 V and a complementary output voltage of -1.5 V to 12.0 V and +12.0 V. Only 2 non-critical external capacitor charge pumps and responsible for reservoir function are needed. The ICL7660 and ICL7660A can also be connected to a voltage multiplier and operate to generate output voltages of +10 V from 18.6 to five.

Included on the chip are a series of DC power regulators, RC oscillators, voltage level translators, 4 output power MOS switches. The unique logic element detects the most negative voltage of the device and ensures that the output N-channel switch source substrate interface is not forward biased. This ensures latching operation.

When unloaded, the oscillator oscillates with a 5.0V input supply voltage at a nominal frequency of 10kHz. In addition, this frequency can be reduced by an external capacitor to "oscillate" the termination, or can be overloaded by an external clock oscillator.
