These transceivers operate in environments where common-mode voltages as high as ±20V (exceeding RS-485 requirements) make this true

The transmitter is RS-485 compliant with V CC ≥4.5V and CC = 3V receiver (RX) input to RS-485 regulations, even with V54Ω load providing a differential output voltage of 1 1.1V to provide a "complete fail-safe" design, thus guaranteeing logic high Rx output if Rx input floats, shorts or terminates, but no drive (idle) on the bus.
