The ISL58797 is a highly integrated, single-supplied laser diode driver that supports multi-standard writable CD, DVD and Blu-ray format optical drives at different speeds. This is part of a "hybrid" that has an interface that is compatible with traditional LDDs, but has a similar write strategy to the internal structure of LDDs. This combination adds versatility to traditional interfaces. The ISL58797 also has a PDIC (Opto-Integrated) control pin, which helps reduce cable signal lines to the Flex.

All output rise time, fall time and punch are adjustable to compensate for high and low resistance lasers. The ISL58797's architecture includes a double-write current bank, which can optionally use the bank's line selector, BSEL. This eliminates the need to synchronize the media of the serial port. The oscillator is activated by an internal distribution scheme attached to any warm state.

There is a 100Ω termination resistor inside the warm wire. The skew output of the receiver has a detector.
