Key features:

• Challenge-based certification program that utilizes 32-digit challenge codes and
  8-digit verification code.
• Fast and flexible identity verification process. Multi-pass authentication, which can be used to achieve the highest level of security, if necessary.
• The 16x8 OTP ROM can store up to three sets of 32-bit hosts Optional secret additional programmable memory for storing up to 48-bit ID codes and/or packet information.
• The FlexiHash engine uses two sets of CAPTCHAs to generate 32-bit secrets.
• Non-unique keys mapped to 8-digit CAPTCHAs maximize the difficulty of hacking and require exhaustive key searches (better than SHA-1).

ISL6296A is a highly cost-effective hashing engine for fixed secrets, based on Intersil's FlexiHash technology. Device authentication is done through a challenge response program designed for low-cost applications where it is not economically feasible to clone without knowledge by eavesdropping on the device's secret code. When used in its intended application, ISL6296A provide the same level of effectiveness as other, significantly more expensive high-maintenance monetarygrade hashing algorithms and authentication schemes.

ISL6296A has a wide operating voltage range and is suitable for direct power supply
1 cell Li-ion/Li-Poly or 3 series NiMH battery packs. ISL6296A can also be powered by an XSD bus when the bus pull-up voltage is 3.3V or higher. The device is directly connected to the battery terminals of the battery pack and includes an on-chip voltage regulation circuit, POR and one
Amorphous oscillators for bus timing reference.

Communication with the host is via a single-wire XSD interface (a lightweight subset of Intersil's ISD bus interface). The XSD bus is compatible with all 8250 compatible UART or microprocessor provided serial ports with a single GPIO (Universal Input Output) pin.
