description
ISL78200 is a synchronous buck controller with 90mΩ high-side MOSFET and low-side driver integration. ISL78200 supports a wide input voltage range of 3V to 40V. Regarding the output current capability of the ISL78200, a continuous load output of 2.5A is typically supported from 5V to 5V, 5V to 36V, at 500kHz, +85°C at a stationary air ambient temperature. For any particular application, the actual maximum output current depends on the die temperature not exceeding +125°C dissipated in the IC's power supply, which is related to input voltage, output voltage, duty cycle, switching frequency, ambient temperature and board layout, etc. See the Output Current section on page 14 for more details. ISL78200 has flexible selection of operating modes in forced PWM mode and PFM mode. In PFM mode, the input quiescent current is as low as 300μA, which further reduces applications with AUXVCC connected to V180V to 5V to five outputs at V12V to 5μA. The load boundary between PFM and PWM can be programmed to cover a wide range of applications. The low-side driver can be used to drive an external low-side MOSFET for synchronous buck, or to leave a standard asynchronous buck idle. The low-side driver can also be used to drive the boost converter as a pre-regulator, greatly extending the input voltage range of the operation to 3V or less (see Typical Application Circuit Diagram III - Buck Converter on page 5). ISL78200 provides the strongest current protection. It is controlled by cycle-by-cycle current limiting peak current mode. It is implemented under the condition of frequency foldback current limit; In addition, the hiccup overcurrent protection mode is implemented to ensure reliable operation under demanding short-term conditions. ISL78200 has comprehensive protection against various faults, including over-voltage and over-temperature protection, among others.
