The ISL78213 is a high efficiency, monolithic synchronous step-down DC/DC converter that provides up to 3A of continuous output current from 2.8V to 5.5V input supply. It uses a current control architecture that provides fast transient response and excellent loop stability at high frequencies with very low duty cycle operation. The ISL78213 integrates a pair of low-resistance P-channel and N-channel internal MOSFETs to maximize efficiency and minimize external component count. 100% duty cycle operation allows a voltage drop of less than 300mV with a 3A output current. Pulse-width modulation (PWM) switching frequencies up to 1MHz can be synchronized to an external clock to 4MHz, allowing the use of small external components and a SYNC input to allow multiple chips to be phased out simultaneously to reduce ripple and eliminate beat frequencies. The ISL78213 can be configured to operate intermittently or forced continuously at light loads. Forced continuous operation reduces noise and RF interference, while discontinuous mode is efficient by reducing switching losses at light loads, fault protection is provided by internal hiccup mode current limiting to short-circuit and overcurrent conditions, and output overvoltage comparators and overtemperature monitoring circuitry. When the output is in the first power good output voltage monitor, the ISL78213 provides a space-saving 4x4 QFN lead-free package with low thermal resistance exposed pad lead frame.
