ISL78213 is a high-efficiency, monolithic synchronous step-down DC/DC converter that provides up to 3A of continuous output current from 2.8V to 5.5V input supply. It uses a current control architecture that provides fast transient response and superior loop stability at high frequencies with very low duty cycles. ISL78213 integrates a pair of low-resistance P-channel and N-channel internal MOSFETs to maximize efficiency and reduce the number of external components. 100% duty cycle operation allows for a voltage drop of less than 300mV of 3A output current. Pulse width modulation (PWM) switching frequencies up to 1MHz can be synchronized with an external clock up to 4MHz, allowing for the use of small external components and SYNC inputs to allow multiple chips to be eliminated synchronously to reduce ripple and eliminate beats. ISL78213 can be configured to work intermittently or continuously under light loads. Forced continuous operation reduces noise and RF interference, while intermittent mode is highly efficient by reducing switching losses at light loads, and fault protection is provided by an internal hiccup mode current limited to short circuit and overcurrent conditions, output overvoltage comparator and over-temperature monitoring circuitry. When the output is in the first power supply good output voltage monitor ISL78213 it offers a space-saving 4x4 QFN lead-free package with a low thermal resistance bare pad lead frame.
