ISL78220 six-phase controllers are designed for applications that require high efficiency (> 95%) and high power. The multiphase boost converter architecture uses staggered time multiplied by channel ripple frequency and reduced input and output ripple. Fewer input/output capacitors, resulting in lower component costs and lower ripple results with a smaller implementation area. ISL78220 has a dedicated pin to start the drop phase, higher efficiency at light loads, based on load current drop phase planning, resulting in significantly reduced switching and core losses in the converter. As the load increases, the descending phase (S) is added back to adapt to the heavy load transients and improve work efficiency. Input current detection is continuous by measuring voltage, through a dedicated current detection resistor or inductor DCR. This current sensing provides precise channel current equalization with per-phase overcurrent protection. A separate cumulative current limit function provides overcurrent protection for all bonded stages. The current protection in both stages provides the highest performance and reliability of the circuit, ISL78220 can also provide voltage tracking via the VREF2 pin. Compare the reference voltage to VREF2 pin or internal reference 2V low. Through a resistor network between the VIN and VREF2 pins, the output voltage tracks the output power when the input voltage is limited to the vehicle's starting conditions. ISL78220 can output clock signals, and in order to expand the scale of operations, it provides high flexibility of the system in 12 stages. The threshold-sensitive enable input can accurately coordinate the ISL78220 start-up with any other voltage rail.
