The ISL78228 is a high efficiency, dual output synchronous step-down DC/DC regulator that delivers up to 800mA of continuous output current per channel. The 2.75V to 5.5V supply voltage range allows the use of 3.3V or 5V inputs. Current-mode control architecture that operates at high frequencies with very low duty cycles with fast transient response and excellent loop stability. The ISL78228 operates the above AM radio bands as well as the 2.25MHz switching frequency, allowing the use of small, low-cost inductors and capacitors. Each channel is optimized to generate output voltages as low as 0.6V. The ISL78228 has a user-configurable operating mode, forced PWM mode and PFM/PWM mode. Forced PWM mode operation reduces noise and RF interference, while PFM mode operation provides high efficiency by reducing switching losses at light loads. In PFM operation, the total quiescent current plotted by the dual channels is only 30μA, resulting in high light load efficiency to maximize battery life. The ISL78228 provides 1ms Power Good (PG) to monitor both output powers. When powered off, the ISL78228 output capacitor is discharged. Other features include internal digital soft-start to sequence the power supply, overcurrent protection, and thermal shutdown. The ISL78228 is available in a 3mmx3mm 10-pin DFN package with a maximum height of 1mm. The complete converter occupies an area of less than 1.8 cm2. ISL78228 is both the AEC-Q100 acclaimed and fully compliant with the TS16949 standard. The ISL78228 is rated over the automotive temperature range (-40°C to +105°C).
