The ISL8013A is a high efficiency, monolithic synchronous step-down DC/DC converter that provides up to 3A of continuous output current from 2.8V to 5.5V input supply. It uses a current control architecture that provides fast transient response and excellent loop stability at high frequencies with very low duty cycle operation. A pair of low-resistance P-channel and N-channel internal MOSFETs are integrated on the ISL8013A to maximize efficiency and minimize external component count. 100% duty cycle operation allows a voltage drop of less than 300mV with a 3A output current. Pulse-width modulation (PWM) switching frequencies up to 1MHz allow the use of small external components and SYNC inputs allow multiple ICs to synchronize to reduce ripple and eliminate beat frequencies, and the ISL8013A can be configured for intermittent or forced continuous operation with light loading. Forced continuous operation reduces noise and RF interference, while discontinuous mode provides internal hiccup mode current limiting during short-circuit and overcurrent conditions by reducing switching losses at light loads, and outputs overvoltage comparators and overtemperature monitoring circuits. Monitor the good output voltage monitor when the output is on the first power supply. The ISL8013A is available in a space-saving 4x4 QFN lead-free package with a low thermal resistance exposed pad lead frame. The ISL8013A includes a pair of low on-resistance P-channels and N-channel internal MOSFETs to maximize efficiency and minimize external component count. 100% duty cycle operation allows dropout voltages of less than 300mV at 3A. The ISL8013A provides a 1ms Power Good (PG) on power-on timer. When powered off, the output capacitor of the ISL8013A is discharged. Other features include internal soft-start, internal compensation, overcurrent protection, and thermal shutdown. The ISL8013A is available in a 16 LD 4mmx4mm QFN package with a maximum height of 1mm. The full converter occupies less than 0.4 inches2.
