The regulator's LM22680 series microcontrollers provide a step-down positive (buck) switching regulator to drive all integrated circuits with excellent line and load regulation characteristics up to 2A. High efficiency ("90%) is obtained through the use of low-resistance N-channel MOSFETs.

On a simple switch ® The concept provides an easy-to-use complete design with minimal number of external components and national WEBENCH ® Design tools. WEBENCH of National Semiconductor ® Tools include functions for external component calculations, electrical simulation, thermal simulation, etc., and build-up of IT boards for ease of design. The clock switching frequency is made by an internal fixed frequency oscillator, operating at 500 kHz. The switching frequency can also be adjusted or synchronized to an external clock of up to 1MHz via an external resistor. It can also automatically synchronize operations with multiple regulators sharing the same switching frequency. The LM22680 series also features built-in thermal shutdown, current limiting, and enable control inputs that can shut down the power regulator to standby at a low quiescent current of 25μA. The adjustable soft-start feature provides the selection of an appropriate external soft-start capacitor.
