The LM2586 series of voltage regulators are monolithic integrated circuits designed specifically for flyback, step-up (boost), and forward converter applications. The device is available in 4 different output voltage versions: 3.3V, 5.0V, 12V, and adjustable.

The power switch is a 3.0A NPN device that can independently shut off 65V. Protect the power switching current and thermal limit circuit, and the undervoltage lockout circuit. The IC contains a frequency-adjustable oscillator that can be programmed to 200 kHz. Oscillators can also be synchronized with other devices, allowing multiple devices to operate at the same switching frequency.

Other features include a soft-start mode to reduce inrush current, transient response to improve input voltage and output load during start-up, and cycle-by-cycle current limit rejection and current mode control. The device also has a shutdown pin so that it can be turned off externally. The output voltage tolerance is ± 4%, and the power supply system is guaranteed under the specified input voltage and output load conditions.
