The voltage regulator LM2586 series is a monolithic integrated circuit specifically designed for flyback, step-up (boost), and forward converter applications. The device is available in 4 different output voltage versions: 3.3V, 5.0V, 12V, and adjustable.

The power switch is a 3.0A NPN device that can be independently turned off to 65V. Protect power switch current and thermal limit circuit, undervoltage lockout circuit. The IC contains a frequency-adjustable oscillator that can be programmed to 200 kHz. The oscillator can also be synchronized with other devices, allowing multiple devices to operate at the same switching frequency.
Other features include a soft-start mode to reduce inrush current during start-up, improved input voltage and output load transient response and cycle-by-cycle current limit repulsion and current-mode control. The device also has a disconnect pin so that it can be turned off externally. The output voltage tolerance is ± 4%, which guarantees the power supply system under the specified input voltage and output load conditions.
