illustrate
The LM2598 Series Buck Switching Regulator (Buck) drives a monolithic IC with excellent line and load regulation with 1A load capability, providing all active functions. These devices are available with fixed output voltages in 3.3V, 5V, 12V, and adjustable output versions.
This series of switching regulators is similar to the LM2595 series, adding additional regulatory and performance features.
Requiring a minimum number of external components, these regulators are simple to use and include internal frequency compensation †, improved line and load specifications, fixed frequency oscillators, shutdown/soft start, error flag delay, and error flag output.
The LM2598 series switches at 150 kHz, thus making the smaller size with the lower frequency switching regulator required for the filter assembly. The standard 7-pin TO-220 package comes with several different bending options, and the 7-Pb TO-263 surface mount package. Typically, the output voltage is less than 12V, the ambient temperature is less than 50 °C, and no heat sink is required.
Standard inductor series (through-hole and surface mount types) can be produced from several different manufacturers optimized for use with the LM2598 series. This feature greatly simplifies the design of switching power supplies.
Other features include guaranteed 4% tolerance under all conditions under input voltage and output load conditions ± output voltage, and 15% frequency ± oscillator. Includes external shutdown with a typical 85μA standby current. Self-protection features include a two-stage current limit, output switching, and complete protection under overtemperature shutdown fault conditions.
