This series of voltage regulators LM2672 is a monolithic integrated circuit manufactured with the LMDMOS process. These regulators provide all the buck-active functions (buck) switching regulators, driving 1A loads with excellent line and load regulation currents. These devices are available in fixed output voltages of 3.3V and 5.0V, 12V, and adjustable output versions.
Requiring a minimum number of external components, these regulators are easy to use and include patented internal frequency compensation (patent numbers 5382918 and 5514947), fixed frequency oscillator, external shutdown, soft-start, and frequency synchronization.
The LM2672 series operates at switching frequency 260 kHz This makes the filter element smaller than the lower frequency switching regulator required. Due to its extremely high efficiency ("90%), copper wire on the printed circuit board is the only heat dissipation required.
A family for standard inductors used with the LM2672 are available from several different manufacturers. This feature greatly simplifies the use of these advanced IC design supplies for switching power supplies. In addition, diode and capacitor selection guidelines designed to operate in switch-mode power supplies are included in the datasheet.
