These regulators provide all buck-active (buck) switching regulators to drive 1A loads with excellent line and load regulation currents. These devices are available in fixed output voltages of 3.3V and 5.0V, 12V, and adjustable output versions. Requiring a minimum number of external components, these regulators are simple and easy to use, including patented internal frequency compensation (patent numbers 5382918 and 5514947), fixed frequency oscillators, external shutdown, soft start, frequency synchronization. The LM2672 series operates on switching frequencies  260 kHz  , so that the small size will be smaller than the low frequency switching regulator will require a filter element. Due to its extremely high efficiency ("90%), copper wires on printed circuit boards are the only heat dissipation needs. A family that uses standard inductors with the LM2672 can be purchased from several different manufacturers. This feature greatly simplifies the use of these advanced integrated circuit design supplies for switching power supplies. In addition, the datasheet includes a guide to selecting diodes and design operating in switch-mode power supply capacitors. Other features include ± guaranteed tolerance of 1.5% and ± 10% oscillator frequency under specified output voltage and input voltage of the output load. External shutdown is included with a typical standby current of 50μA. Includes output switching current limiting and adequate protection for thermal shutdown in fault conditions.
