This series of voltage regulators LM2674 is a monolithic integrated circuit manufactured with the LMDMOS process. These regulators provide all buck-active functions (buck) switching regulators, driving 500 mA loads with excellent line and load regulation currents. These devices are available in fixed output voltages of 3.3V and 5.0V, 12V, and adjustable output versions.
Requiring a minimum number of external components, these regulators are easy to use, including patented internal frequency compensation (patent numbers 5382918 and 5514947) and fixed-frequency oscillators.
The LM2674 series operates at a switching frequency of 260 kHz, making it smaller than the lower frequency switching regulator that requires filter elements. Due to its extremely high efficiency ("90%), copper wire on the printed circuit board is the only heat dissipation required.
A family for standard inductors used with the LM2674 are available from several different manufacturers. This feature greatly simplifies the use of these advanced IC design supplies for switching power supplies. In addition, diode and capacitor selection guidelines designed to operate in switch-mode power supplies are included in the datasheet.
Other features include ± guaranteed 1.5% tolerance and ±10% oscillator frequency at the specified output voltage and input voltage of the output load. External shutdown is included with a typical standby current of 50μA. Includes output switch current limit and adequate protection against thermal shutdown during fault conditions.
To simplify the LM2674 buck regulator design process, computer design software exists, LM267X made simple(Version 6.0).
