The LM2679 series of regulators are monolithic integrated circuits that provide buck switching regulators capable of driving excellent line and load regulation characteristics with 5A loads (buck) all the positive features. High efficiency (> 90%) is obtained by using a low on-resistance DMOS power switch. The series includes fixed output voltage and adjustable output versions of 3.3V, 5V and 12V.

THE SIMPLE SWITCHER CONCEPT PROVIDES A COMPLETE DESIGN USING A MINIMUM NUMBER OF EXTERNAL COMPONENTS. A higher fixed-frequency oscillator (260KHz) allows the use of smaller components. The LM2679 series for a standard inductor is available from several manufacturers, greatly simplifying the design process.

Other features include the addition of a soft-start sequencing capacitor to step on the regulator's ability to reduce input inrush current at power-up. The LM2679 series also features built-in thermal shutdown and resistor-programmable current limit protection devices and power MOSFET switches during load circuit fault conditions. The output voltage is guaranteed to a tolerance of ± 2%. The clock frequency is controlled to a tolerance of 11% ±.
