The LM2831 regulator is a monolithic, high-frequency, PWM step-down DC/DC converter in a 5-pin SOT23 package and a 6-pin LLP package. It offers all the positive features, provides fast transient response, and precisely adjusts local DC/DC conversion with the smallest possible PCB area. With minimal external components, the LM2831 is easy to use. 130 meters, its internal 1.5A load drive capacity PMOS switches use state-of-the-art 0.5 micron BiCMOS process technology to achieve optimal power density. World-class control circuitry allows a time as low as 30ns, allowing very high frequency conversion over the entire 3V frequency with a minimum output voltage range of 0.6V to 5.5V. The switching frequency of 1.6 MHz or 3.0 MHz with an internal setting of 550 kHz allows the use of very small surface mount inductors and capacitors. Even with high operating frequencies, efficiencies as high as 93% are easily achievable. External shutdown is included with an ultra-low standby current of 30 nA. The LM2831 uses current mode control and internal compensation to provide high-performance regulation of a wide range of operating conditions. Other features include internal soft-start circuitry to reduce inrush current, pulse-pass pulse current limiting, thermal shutdown, and output overvoltage protection.
