The LM2990 is a three-terminal, low dropout, 1 amp negative voltage regulated to provide a fixed output voltage of -5V.

The LM2990 uses new circuit design techniques to provide low dropout and low quiescent current. The low dropout voltage of 1A load current is typically 0.6V and a worst-case maximum of 1V over the entire operating temperature range. Typical quiescent current is 1A, load current, and 1 mA input-output voltage difference is greater than 3V. A unique circuit design with an internal bias supply limits the quiescent current to only 9 mA (typical) when regulated dropout mode_（VOUT_-V IN ≤ 3V）。 Output voltage accuracy is guaranteed to be ± 5% full load and extreme temperatures.

The LM2990 is short-circuit protected and thermally shut down to improve equipment reliability during long periods of heavy load, including hysteresis.
