The LM3421/23 is an LED driver controller for a versatile high-voltage N-channel MOSFET. They can be easily configured in buck, boost, buck-boost and SEPIC topologies. This flexibility, along with a 75V input voltage rating, makes the LM3421/23 ideal for lighting LEDs in a large number of applications.
The adjustable high-side current sense voltage allows for tight monitoring of LED current and the highest possible efficiency. The LM3421/23 uses a control of predictive shutdown time (professional), which is a combination of peak current mode control and predictive shutdown timer. This control approach simplifies loop compensation design while providing inherent input voltage feedforward compensation.
The LM3421/23 device includes a high-voltage start-up regulator that operates to 75V over a wide input range of 4.5V. The internal PWM controller is designed to adjust the switching frequency up to 2.0 MHz, thus making it a compact solution. Other features include "zero current" shutdown, analog dimming PWM dimming, overvoltage protection, undervoltage lockout, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and thermal shutdown.
The LM3423 also includes an LED output status flag, fault flag, programmable fault timer, and a logic input to select the polarity of the dimming output driver.
The LM3421Q1/23Q1 is AEC-Q100 Level 1 qualified and LM3421Q0/23Q0 is AEC-Q100 Level 0 qualified.
