The LM3485 is a high-efficiency PFET switching regulator controller that can be used to quickly and easily develop small, low-cost, switching buck regulators for a wide range of applications. Hysteresis control architectures provide a simple design without any control loop stability, using a wide variety of external components to focus on. The PFET's architecture also allows for low component counts, as well as ultra-low dropouts, and 100% duty cycle operation. Another benefit is that the increased output ripple is highly efficient at light loads without operation.

The current limit protection feature is provided by measuring the R DS(ON) voltage of the PFET, eliminating the need for a detector to detect the resistor. Cycle-by-cycle current limit, the output current range of one resistor can be adjusted to ensure safe operation.
