The LM3489 is PFET's high efficiency switching regulator controller that can be used to quickly and easily develop small, cost-effective, switching buck regulators for a wide range of applications. The hysteresis control architecture provides a simple design without any control loop stability, using a wide variety of external component concerns. PFET's architecture also allows for low component count, as well as ultra-low dropout, 100% duty cycle operation. Another benefit is the increased output ripple at light loads with high efficiency and no operation. A dedicated enable pin provides a shutdown mode and the drawing is only 7μA. Just leave the enable pin default.
Voltage measurement of the R of PFETDS(ON)A current limit protection function can be implemented, eliminating the need for a sense resistor. A sense resistor can be used to improve existing current limiting accuracy, if needed. Cycle-by-cycle current limiting allows the output current range of a resistor to be adjusted to ensure safe operation.
