The LM3670 step-down DC-DC converter is optimized for supplying ultra-low voltage circuits from a single Li-ion battery or a 3-cell NiMH/NiCd battery. It delivers up to 350 mA of load current over an input voltage range from 2.5V to 5.5V. Several different fixed output voltages are available, as well as an adjustable output voltage version (see ordering information).

The device offers superior functionality and performance in portable applications similar to mobile phones and complex power management systems. Intelligent switching between automatic PWM low noise and PFM low current modes provides improved system control. At full power operation, a fixed frequency of 1 MHz (typical). PWM mode drives loads from [Similar_To] 70 mA to 350 mA maximum, up to 95% efficiency. Hysteresis PFM mode extension reduces battery life by quiescent current to 15μA (typical) current at light loads and system standby. Internal synchronous rectification provides high efficiency (90% to 95% typical at 1 mA and 100 mA loads). The device shuts down in shutdown mode (the enable pin pulls low) to reduce battery consumption by 0.1μA (typical).

The LM3670 is available in a SOT23-5 package. The high switching frequency - 1 MHz (typical) - allows for tiny surface mount components. Only three external surface mount components, an inductor and two ceramic capacitors, are required.
