The LM3670 step-down DC-DC converter is an ultra-low voltage circuit that optimizes power from a single Li-ion battery or 3 NiMH/NiDD batteries. It provides up to 350 mA of load current over an input voltage range from 2.5V to 5.5V. Several different fixed output voltages are available, as well as an adjustable output voltage version (see ordering information).

The device delivers superior functionality and performance for portable applications such as mobile phones and complex power management systems. Intelligent switching between automatic PWM low noise and PFM low current modes provides improved system control. Operates at full power at a fixed frequency of 1 MHz (typical). PWM mode drives loads from [Similar_To] 70 mA to 350 mA max with up to 95% efficiency. Hysteresis PFM mode extension reduces battery life by quiescent current to 15μA (typical) current at light load and system standby. Internal synchronous rectification provides high efficiency (from 90% to 95% typical at 1 mA and 100 mA load). The device is turned off in shutdown mode (enable pin pulled down), reducing battery consumption by 0.1μA (typical).

The LM3670 is available in a SOT23-5 package. High switching frequency - 1 MHz (typical) - allows for tiny surface mount components. Only three external surface mount components, an inductor and two ceramic capacitors, are required.
