The LM397 is a mode with input common-ground and includes a single voltage comparator. The LM397 is designed to operate from a single 5V to 30V supply or a split supply. Its low supply current is actually independent of the size of the supply voltage.

The LM397 features an open collector output stage. This allows an external resistor to be connected at the output. The output interface can be directly connected with TTL, CMOS and other logic levels through bundled resistors to different voltage levels (level shifting).

The LM397 is available in a space-saving 5-pin SOT23 package and is pin-compatible with TI's TL331 with a single differential ratio.
