The LM5009 switching regulator steps provide all the features needed to implement a low-cost, high-efficiency, buck bias regulator. The device is capable of driving 150 mA load current from a 9.5V to 95V input source. Depending on the input and output voltage, the switching frequency can exceed 600 kHz. Output voltages are available from 2.5V to 85V. Such a high voltage regulator contains an N-channel buck switch and an internal start-up regulator. The device is available in easy-to-implement MSOP-8 and thermally enhanced LLP-8 packages. The LM5009 is an ideal replacement for monolithic high voltage or discrete linear solutions where power losses become unacceptable. The operation of the regulator is inversely proportional to VIN based on the time the control plan is used ON. This feature allows the operating frequency to remain relatively constant during load and input voltage changes. The regulatory program requires no loop compensation, resulting in an ultra-fast transient response. Implementing smart current limit forces the shutdown time, which is inversely proportional to VOUT. This plan ensures short-circuit protection while providing minimal switchback. Other features include thermal shutdown, VCC undervoltage lockout, gate drive undervoltage lockout, and maximum duty cycle limit.
