The LM5072 Power Supply Device (PD) interface and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller provide a complete power solution with a fully IEEE 802.3af compliant PD connected to a Power over Ethernet (PoE) network for power supply. The controller integrates all the necessary functions to achieve PD-powered interfaces and DC-to-DC conversion with a minimum number of external components. The LM5072 offers the flexibility to PDs, also accepting auxiliary sources from multiple configurations, such as AC adapter power supplies. The low RDS(ON) PD interface hot-swappable MOSFET and programmable DC current limit extend twice the power level of the 802.3af standard PD device for the LM5072 application range. Up to 100V, rated voltage simplified transient voltage suppressor, from the network to the choice of transient protection PD. The LM5072 includes an easy-to-use that facilitates a variety of single-ended power supply topologies, including sweepback, forward, and step-down PWM controllers. The PWM control plan is based on a peak current control pattern, which provides inherent benefits including line feedforward, feedback cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and simplified loop compensation. Both versions of the LM5072 offer a maximum duty cycle of 80% (-80 suffix), or a maximum duty cycle of 50% (-50 suffix).
