The LM5072 Power Supply Device (PD) interface and pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller provide a complete power solution that is fully IEEE 802.3af compliant for PD access to Power over Ethernet (PoE) network power connections. The controller integrates all the necessary functions to achieve a minimum number of external components, both a PD power supply interface and a DC-DC converter. The LM5072 offers flexible PD also accepts power from multiple configurations such as AC adapter auxiliary sources. The low RDS(ON) PD interface, hot-swappable MOSFETs, and programmable DC current limits are extended to twice the LM5072 application in the 802.3af compliant PD device power stage range. Simplified transient voltage suppressor at a maximum voltage rating of 100V, protects PD selection from network transients. The LM5072 includes an easy-to-use PWM controller that facilitates a variety of single-ended power supply topologies, including reverse, forward, and buck. The PWM control scheme is based on peak current mode control and provides the inherent benefits of including line feedforward, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and simplified feedback loop compensation. Both versions offer LM5072 or 80% maximum duty cycle (-80 suffix), or 50% maximum duty cycle (-50 suffix).
