The LM5110 dual-gate driver replaces the industry-standard gate driver that improves peak output current and efficiency. Each "composite" output drive stage includes the MOS and bipolar transistors running in parallel, along with sinking capacitor loads in excess of 5A peaks. The combination of MOS and the uniqueness of bipolar devices reduces drive current, voltage, and temperature variations. Independent input and output ground pins provide negative drive capability, allowing users to drive both positive and negative VGS voltage MOSFET gates. The gate driver controls the input being referenced to a dedicated input ground (IN_REF). The output swing of the gate driver ranges from V CC to V EE, which can be IN_REF negative. MOSFET synchronous rectifiers that can close the gate with negative voltage VGS MOSFETs to reduce losses and low threshold voltages during driving are often used. With the traditional front-only gate voltage drive, the IN_REF and V EE pins are connected together and referenced to a common denominator. Undervoltage lockout protection and shutdown input pins are also available. The driver can operate with the input and connect to the dual drive current capability output in parallel. The unit is available in both SOIC-8 and thermally enhanced LLP-10 packages.
