The LM5116 is a synchronous buck controller from high voltage buck regulator applications or a wide range of input power sources. The control method is based on the current mode using an analog current ramp. Current mode control provides line-intrinsic feed-forward, compensated by periodic current limiting and loops that are easy to cycle. A simulated control ramp uses noise-reducing pulse-width modulation circuitry for sensitivity, allowing very small duty cycles necessary for reliable control in high input voltage applications. Programmable operating frequency from 50kHz to 1MHz. The LM5116 driver has external high-side and low-side NMOS with adaptive dead-time control power switches. User-selectable diode emulation modes improve efficiency in light load continuous operation. Low quiescent current shutdown disables the controller and consumes less than 10μA of total input current. Other features include a high voltage bias regulator, automatic external bias transfer switch for efficiency, thermal shutdown, frequency synchronization, periodic current limiting, and regulation of line undervoltage lockout periods. The device is available in a power supply enhanced TSSOP-20 package with an exposed pad connection chip to help dissipate heat.
