The LM5116 is a synchronous buck controller for applications from high voltage buck regulators or for a wide range of different input power supplies. The control method is based on the current mode using an analog current ramp control. Current mode control provides the feedforward inherent to the line, compensated by periodic current limits and an easy-to-cycle loop. An analog control ramp uses a noise-reducing pulse-width modulation circuit for the sensitivity, allowing very small duty cycles necessary for reliable control in high input voltage applications. Programmable operating frequency from 50kHz to 1MHz. The LM5116 driver has an external high-side and low-side NMOS with an adaptive dead-time controlled power switch. User-selectable diode emulation mode for increased efficiency in continuous operation mode under light load conditions. Low quiescent current shutdown disables the controller and consumes less than 10μA of total input current. Other features include a high-voltage bias regulator, automatic external bias transfer switch for improved efficiency, thermal shutdown, frequency synchronization, limit by periodic current and regulate line undervoltage lockout cycles. The device is available in an enhanced TSSOP-20 package with exposed pad attachment chips to help dissipate heat in a power supply.
