The LM73 is an integrated, digital output temperature sensor with a two-wire interface with SMBus and I compatible with Delta Delta-ΣADC 2 C ® interface. The host can query the reading temperature LM73 at any time. Housed in a 6-pin SOT-23 package, the LM73 occupies a very small board area while operating over a wide temperature range (-40°C to 150°C) and offers ± 1.0°C accuracy from -10°C to 80°C. Users can optimize the sensitivity between conversion times and LM73 by programming to report any temperature at four different resolutions. Defaulting to 11-bit mode (0.25°C/LSB), the LM73 measures the upper limit temperature at 14 ms time, making it suitable for use soon after needing ideal temperature data. At its maximum resolution, in 14-bit mode (0.03125°C/LSB), the LM73 is optimized to sense very small changes in temperature.

A multi-level address line selects one of three unique device addresses. Open-drain^ ALERT output becomes active when temperature exceeds a programmable limit. Both data lines and clock lines are used to filter excellent noise tolerance and reliable communication. In addition, the clock and data line timeout feature enables the LM73 to automatically reset these lines as long as one of them holds for a low period of time, thus exiting any bus-locked state without processor intervention.
