illustrate
LM78LXX series three-terminal positive regulators are several fixed output voltages, making them very useful in a wide range of applications. LM78LXX when used as a Zener diode/resistor combination replacement, it typically results in an effective output impedance improvement of two orders of magnitude and lower quiescent current. These regulators provide on-card regulation on the local card, eliminating the issues associated with single-point regulation distribution. The available voltages allow LM78LXX use in logic systems, instrumentation, audio, and other solid-state electronics.
LM78LXX is in plastic TO-92(Z) package, plastic SO-8(M) package and chip size package (8-bump micro SMD) using national micro SMD packaging technology. With ample heat from the sinking regulator, 100mA output current is available. Current limiting, including limiting the peak output current to a safe value. The output transistor safe zone protection limits internal power consumption. If the internal power consumption is too high, the heat provided sinks and the thermal shutdown circuit prevents the overheating IC from taking over.
