The three-terminal positive voltage regulators LM341 and LM78MXX series feature built-in current limiting, thermal shutdown, and safe workspace protection, which makes them virtually immune to output heavy loads.

With enough heat dissipation, they can provide an output current of over 0.5A. Typical applications will include local (card) regulators that can eliminate noise and performance degradation associated with single point regulation.
