TheLM8801 step-down DC-DC converter is optimized to operate from a single lithium-ion battery and an ultra-low voltage circuit powered by a 2.3V to 5.5V input voltage rail. It can provide up to 600 mA of load current over the entire input voltage range.

The LM8801 has a mode control pin that allows the user to select continuous PWM over the entire load range or automatic PFM - PWM mode operation, automatically changing modes depending on the load. In PWM mode, the device operates at a fixed frequency of 6 MHz (typical). In automatic PFM-PWM mode, hysteresis, PFM extends battery life at light loads and system standby by reducing quiescent current.

The LM8801 is available in a 6-bump micro SMD package. Only three compact external surface mount components, an inductor and two capacitors, are required.
