The LM8801 step-down DC-DC converter is optimized to power an ultra-low voltage circuit from a single Li-Ion battery and an input voltage rail from 2.3V to 5.5V. It can deliver up to 600 mA of load current over the entire input voltage range.

The LM8801 has a mode control pin that allows the user to select continuous PWM over the entire load range or automatic PFM-PWM mode operation, which automatically changes the mode according to the load. In PWM mode, the device operates at a fixed frequency of 6 MHz (typical). In automatic PFM-PWM mode, hysteresis, PFM extends battery life by reducing quiescent current at light loads and system standby.

The LM8801 is available in a 6-ball micro SMD package. Only three compact external surface mount components, an inductor and two capacitors, are required.
