LM95231 is an accurate dual remote diode temperature sensor (rapid diagnostic detection method) using National Semiconductor's TruTherm technology. The LM95231 of the 2-wire serial interface is compatible with SMBus 2.0. LM95231 can sense three temperature zones, which can measure the temperature of its own die and the transistor connected by two diodes. LM95231 includes digital filtering and an advanced input stage that includes analog filtering and TruTherm technology to reduce processor-to-processor non-ideal propagation. Diode-connected transistors can be found in Intel and AMD processors with a "thermal diode" or can simply be connected to MMBT3904 transistor diodes. TruTherm technology can accurately measure small geometry processes, "thermal diodes" from 90nm and below. LM95231 support for user-selectable thermal diodes is not ideal for using a Pentium ® 4 processor, 90nm process or 2N3904.

LM95231 remote temperature readout resolution format can be programmed with 11-bit signed or unsigned digital filtering capabilities. When the resolution of the filtering function is increased to 13 bits, signed or unsigned. In symbol mode, LM95231 remote diode readings can resolve temperatures above 127°C. The local temperature readings have a 9-digit plus resolution.
