The LM95241 is a precision dual remote diode temperature sensor (Rapid Diagnostic Test Method) using National Semiconductor's TruTherm technology. The LM95241 with a 2-wire serial interface is compatible with SMBus 2.0. The LM95241 can sense three temperature zones, which measure the temperature of its own die and the transistors connected by two diodes. The LM95241 includes digital filtering and an advanced input stage including analog filtering and TruTherm technology that reduces processor-to-processor non-ideal propagation. Diode-connected transistors can be found in Intel and AMD processors as a "thermal diode" or MMBT3904 transistor diodes can simply be connected. TruTherm technology can accurately measure "hot diodes" found in geometries as small as 90nm and 65nm. The LM95241 supports user-selectable thermal diodes that are not ideal, either on Intel 90nm or 65nm processes or 2N3904 processors.
The LM95241 remote temperature reading resolution format can be programmed with 11-bit signed or unsigned digital filtering. When the resolution of the filtering function is increased to 13 bits with signed or unsigned. In symbolic mode, LM95241 remote diode readings can address temperatures above 127°C. Local temperature readings have a 9-bit plus resolution.
