illustrate
Remote and local temperature sensors have been tested with integrated LM96163 fan control, including TruTherm BJT transistor remote diode sensor compensation technology. The LM96163 measures (1) its own temperature and (2) the temperature at which diodes are connected to transistors, such as the 2N3904, or thermal diodes commonly found in computer processors, graphics processing units (GPUs), and other ASICs. The LM96163's offset register corrects errors caused by different non-ideal other thermal diode factors.
The LM96163 also features an integrated, pulse-width modulated (PWM), open-drain fan control output. Fan speed depends on a combination of multiple remote temperature readings, lookup tables, and register settings. A 12-step lookup table (LUT) gives the user a transfer function to nonlinear fan speed versus temperature typically used for silent fan noise. A fully programmable ramp feature has been added to allow smooth transitions between LUT set points.
