The LMS202E has two transmitters for RS-232 communication and two receivers. It has a DC-DC converter that allows the device to operate with only a single +5 V power supply. An on-chip DC-DC converter utilizes four external 0.1μF capacitors to generate dual RS-232 output level-compatible internal power supplies.

The device complies with EIA/TIA-232E and CCITT V.28 specifications up to 230 kbits/sec. The LMS202E is available in a 16-pin narrow and wide SOIC package.

The transmitter output and receiver input are protected against electrostatic discharge (ESD) to ± 15kV. The LMS202E survives ± 15kV ESD events when the RS-232 input and output pins are subject to air-gapped specifications according to mannequins or IEC 1000-4-2 (EN61000-4-2). It survives ± 8kV discharge and is subject to IEC 1000-4-2 (EN61000-4-2), contact specifications. The device is designed for use in harsh environments where ESD is a concern.
