The LMV221 is a 40 dB RF power detector used in CDMA and WCDMA applications. The device has an RF frequency range from 50 MHz to 3.5 GHz. It provides a precise linear relationship between the temperature and power supply compensated output voltage at dBm of RF input power. The circuit operates from a single supply of 2.7V to 3.3V.

The LMV221's RF power detection range from -45 dBm to -5 dBm is ideal for direct use with a 30 dB directional coupler in combination with an ideal combination. Additional low-pass filtered output signals can be achieved by passing through external resistance and capacitance. Figure (a) shows a detector with an additional output low-pass filter. This filter frequency setting is the same as R S and C S.

Figure (b) shows an additional feedback low-pass filter detector. The resistor R P is optional and reduces the transimpedance gain (R TRANS). This filter frequency setting is the same as C P//C TRANS and R P//R TRANS.

The device is active enabled=high, otherwise it is in low power shutdown mode. To save power and prevent external filtering capacitor discharge, the output (OUT) is shutdown at high impedance.

The power detector LMV221 is available in a small 2.2 mm x 2.5 mm x 0.8 mm LLP package.
