The LMV431, LMV431A, and LMV431B are precision shunt regulators with the ability to adjust from 1.24V to 30V. The cathode voltage is controlled from the adjustment pin of the negative cathode feedback, much like a non-inverting op amp configuration (reference symbols and function diagram). The two-resistor divider terminates at the regulation pin to control a 1.24V bandgap reference gain. The adjustment pin (voltage follower) of the short-circuit cathode provides a 1.24V cathode voltage.

While the LMV431, LMV431A and LMV431B have initial tolerances of 1.5%, 1%, and 0.5%, respectively, and function to lend themselves, several applications are required to behave in the Zener diode type at low voltage. Applications include a 2.7V low-dropout regulator, an error amplifier in a 3V off-line switching regulator, and even a 3V as a voltage detector. These components are usually stable with less than 10nF and less capacitive loads than 50pF.
