The LP38841 is a high current, fast response regulator that keeps the output voltage regulated with a minimum input and output voltage drop. Manufactured on a CMOS process, the device consists of two input voltages: VBIAS provides the voltage to drive the gate of the N-MOS power transistor, and Vin is the input voltage to power the load. The use of an externally biased railway allows some to operate ultra-low Vin voltages. Unlike bipolar regulators, CMOS architectures draw very low quiescent current at any output load current. The result of using an N-MOS power transistor with a wide bandwidth but minimal external capacitance is the need to maintain loop stability.

The fast transient response of these devices makes them suitable for DSP, microcontroller core voltage, and switch-mode power supply postregulators. The device is available in TO-220 and TO-263 packages.

Differential pressure: 75 mV (typical) @ 0.8A load current.

Quiescent current: 30 mA (typical) at full load.

Shutdown current: When the S/D# pin of 30 NA (typical) is low.

Precision output voltage: 1.5% room temperature accuracy.
