The use of an external biased railway allows partial operation of voltages from ultra-low input voltages. Unlike bipolar regulators, CMOS architectures draw very low quiescent current at any output load current. The result of using an N-MOS power transistor with a wide bandwidth but minimal external capacitance is the need to maintain loop stability.
