With switching frequencies up to 500kHz, the LT ® 1510 current mode PWM battery charger is the smallest, simplest, and most efficient solution for fast charging modern batteries including lithium-ion (lithium-ion batteries), rechargeable batteries, nickel-metal hydride (nickel-metal hydride batteries*), and nickel-cadmium (NiCd)* charging that require constant current and/or constant voltage charging. An internal switch capable of providing 1.5A DC current (peak current of 2A). The built-in current sense resistor of 0.1 ohm makes charging current programming very simple. A resistor (or programmed current from the DAC) is set to a charge current (1.5A) with an accuracy requirement of within 5%. The LT1510 meets the requirements of critical constant voltage rechargeable lithium batteries with a reference voltage accuracy of 0.5%. The LT1510 can be charged from 2V to 20V batteries. Current grounding detection is not necessary, it can be directly connected to the negative electrode of the battery to ground. The saturation switch operates at 200kHz (LT1510-5 at 500kHz) with high charging efficiency and small inductor size. There is no need to block between the diode chip and the battery because the chip goes into sleep mode when the wall adapter pulls out the drain at only 3μA. Soft start and shutdown functions are also available. The LT1510 is a fusion of a 16-pin power SO package resulting in thermal resistance of 50°C/W, 8-pin SO, and 16-pin PDIP.
