® The LT 1573 is a regulator driver IC design that provides a low cost solution for applications requiring high current, low dropout voltage and fast transient response. When combined with an external PNP power transistor, this device provides load currents up to 5A with a voltage drop voltage as low as 0.35V. The LT1573 circuit is designed for extremely fast transient responses. This greatly reduces the mass memory capacity when regulators are used in applications where fast, high current load transients are used. To keep cost and complexity low, the LT1573 uses a new time-delay lockout overcurrent protection technique that eliminates the need for an external current sense resistor. Base drive instantaneous protection is limited, and the time delay latches the regulator for continuous short-circuit protection. The LT1573 is a 1.27V output range adjustable regulated 6.8V, 2.5V, 2.8V and 3.3V fixed output voltages. Output accuracy is better than 1% to meet the critical regulatory requirements of fast microprocessors. A special 8-pin, molten lead surface mount package is used to minimize regulatory footprint and provide adequate heat dissipation.
