® LT 1573 is a regulator driver IC design that provides a low-cost solution for applications requiring high current, low dropout, and fast transient response. When combined with an external PNP power transistor, the device provides a load current of up to 5A as low as 0.35V dropout voltage. The LT1573 circuit is designed for extremely fast instantaneous response. This greatly reduces the storage capacity of large volumes when regulators are used in fast, high-current load transients applications. To keep cost and complexity low, the LT1573 uses a new time-delay latching overcurrent protection technology that eliminates the need for an external current-sense resistor. Base drive transient protection is limited, time delay latches regulators for continuous short-circuit protection. The LT1573 is a 1.27V output range with adjustable regulated output voltages of 6.8V, 2.5V, 2.8V, and 3.3V fixed output voltages. Output accuracy of better than 1% to meet the critical regulation requirements of fast microprocessors. A special 8-pin, molten lead surface mount package is used to minimize regulatory footprint and provide adequate heat dissipation.
