® The LT 1620 simplifies the design of high-performance control currents for battery charging circuits with a current-mode PWM controller IC when used together. The LT1620 regulates the average output current for independent input and output voltage variations. The output current can be easily programmed by adjusting the voltage applied to the LT1620's PROG pin. Current-mode PWM controllers have a limited output voltage range due to the common mode limit of the current sense input. The LT1620 overcomes this limitation by providing a level-shifted current-sensing signal that enables an output voltage range of 0V to 32V. The 16-pin version of the LT1620 includes a programmable low charge current tagged output. When this output flag signal can be used, the lithium-ion battery is nearing the end of its charge cycle. The LT1621 uses two fully independent current control circuits for dual-loop applications.
