description

®The LT 3083 is a 3A low-dropout linear regulator that can be connected in parallel to increase output current or dissipate heat across a surface-mount board. Designed to be used as a precision current source and voltage follower, this new regulator can be used in many applications requiring high current, zero-to-zero adjustable capability and without a heat sink. In addition, the device leads the collector of the transistor to enable low-dropout (as low as 310mV) operation when used with multiple power supplies. One of the key features of the LT3083 is its ability to provide a wide output voltage range. Using a reference current flowing through a single resistor, the output voltage can be set at any level between 0V and 23V (DD-PAK and TO-220 packages). The LT3083 is stable when using a 10μF capacitor at the output, and the IC remains stable with small ceramic capacitors without the need for additional ESR as is common with other regulators. The internal protection circuitry includes current limiting and thermal limiting. The LT3083 is available in a 16-pin TSSOP package with an exposed gasket for better thermal characteristics, a 12-pin 4mm x 4mm DFN package with an exposed gasket, a 5-pin TO-220 package, and a 5-pin surface-mount DD-PAK package.
