®The LT 3491 is a fixed-frequency boost DC/DC converter designed to drive up to 6 tandem white LEDs from a single lithium-ion battery. The use of LED series provides equal LED current, resulting in uniform display brightness and eliminating the need for additional ballast resistors. The device uses a unique high-end LED current sense that allows it to act as a "single-wire current source"; One end of the LED string can be connected back to ground at any position, allowing for a simpler, single-wire LED connection. Traditional LED drivers use a ground resistor to sense the LED current, requiring a two-wire connection to the LED string.

The 2.3MHz switching frequency allows for the use of slim inductors and capacitors. A single pin performs shutdown and accurate LED dimming control. Minimal external components are required: LED open-circuit protection and Schottky diodes are integrated in a compact SC70 and 2mm x 2mm DFN package. With such a high level of integration, the LT3491 provides a high-efficiency LED driver solution with a minimal footprint.
