description

®The LT 3796 is a DC/DC controller designed to regulate a constant current or voltage and is ideal for driving LEDs. The device drives a low-end external N-channel power MOSFET from an internally tuned 7.7V supply. The fixed-frequency and current-mode architecture enables stable operation over a wide supply and output voltage range. Two ground-referenced FB pins serve as inputs for multiple LED protection function circuits and also enable the converter to act as a constant voltage source. The LT3796 incorporates a programmable threshold output detection amplifier with a rail-to-rail common-mode range. In addition, the LT3796 includes a separate high-end current-sense amplifier with a gain that can be configured with two resistors. The TG pin is responsible for inverting and level-shifting the PWM signal to drive the gate of the external PMOS. The PWM input provides an LED dimming ratio of up to 3000:1, while the CTRL input provides additional analog dimming capabilities.
