LTC^®The 1196/LTC1198 are 600ns, 8-bit A/D converters with sampling frequencies up to 1MHz. They are available in an 8-pin SO package and operate from a 3V to 6V supply. Power consumption is only 10mW from a 3V supply or 50mW from a 5V supply. When no conversion is performed, the LTC1198 automatically powers down, with a typical supply current of only 1nA. These 8-bit switched capacitor successive approximation ADCs include sampling and protection circuitry. The LTC1196 has a differential analog input; The LTC1198 provides a software-selectable two-channel MUX.

The 3-wire serial I/O, SO-8 package, 3V operating voltage, and very high sample rate-to-power ratio make these ADCs ideal for compact, high-speed systems.

These ADCs can be used in ratiometric applications or with an external reference. The high impedance analog inputs and the ability to operate at reduced spans below 1V full scale (LTC1196) allow direct connection to signal sources in many applications, eliminating the need for additional gain stages.

The specifications of the A-grade devices achieve a total unadjusted error of ±1/2LSB (max) over temperature.
